Vulvar\/Vaginal Cancer:<\/h4><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhn.ca\/PatientsFamilies\/Health_Information\/Health_Topics\/Documents\/Quick_Facts_about_Vulvar_Cancer.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vulvar cancer<\/a> is uncommon and usually seen in older women.\u00a0 It occurs on the outer skin surface of the genital area. The average age at time of diagnosis is 70; less than 20% of women are younger than 50 years of age. It can be seen in women who have a history of abnormal PAP tests and can be associated with HPV (Human Papilloma Virus).\u00a0 Additionally, women with a history of lichen sclerosis, a chronic inflammatory condition of the vulva, are at increased risk of developing vulvar cancer. Identifying and treating pre-cancerous lesions of the lower genital tract \u2013 cervix, vagina and vulva is an effective measure to decrease the chance of developing vulvar cancer.<\/p><h4>Types:<\/h4><ul><li>vulvar squamous cell carcinoma<\/li><li>vulvar melanoma<\/li><\/ul><h4>Symptoms:<\/h4><ul><li>vulvar itching<\/li><li>vulvar pain<\/li><li>vaginal bleeding<\/li><li>vulvar skin changes<\/li><li>vulvar mass<\/li><\/ul><h4>Diagnosis:<\/h4><p>Assessment of a patient with suspected vulvar cancer may include<\/p><ul><li>Complete physical examination including evaluation of inguinal lymph nodes<\/li><li>Documentation of location of mass with respect to surrounding structures (ie. clitoris, anus, urethra)<\/li><li>Colposcopy<\/li><li>Tissue biopsy with expert pathology review<\/li><li>CT of the chest, abdomen, pelvis<\/li><li>MRI<\/li><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><h4>Treatment:<\/h4><p>Treatment options depend on the type and stage of cancer, as well as the patient&#8217;s overall health status.
