Feeding in pig nurseries and finishers is typically conducted with groups of animals of similar age receiving the same diet through fill systems that direct feed to bulk feeders located in the pens. Feed bins come in a variety of types and sizes. They are usually made of galvanized steel or a poly material. Bins are typically sized to hold 7-10 days’ worth of feed per ration. Bin sensors are used to measure and track the amount of feed in the bins as well as the rates of consumption.
